Meet Moses T. Singbeh. He’s the Principal of Bridge Liberia, Gbah Foboi Public School in Grand Cape Mount County, north-west Liberia. Moses has to cycle over one hour each day to get to and from his school, but he always arrives on time so that he can ensure the school is running well!
Moses has over a decade’s worth of teaching experience, and now supervises the education of over 400 students. Being part of the innovation taking place through Bridge is exciting, Moses explains, describing the opportunity as a chance “to contribute to the development of education in Liberia.”
Moses is making sure that school isn’t just about lessons. He’s introduced a special “Girls’ Counselling Session,” bringing in the expertise of female teachers to encourage girls to focus on their studies and stay in school. He feels that the programme will give girls the courage they need to insist that their education is more important than starting a family quickly, and is confident that there will be positive results.
Alongside this, Moses is bringing some fun to Gbah Foboi! He shares Bridge’s view that happy children learn better, and he’s determined to bring this ethos to the classroom. Under his leadership team quizzes, sports competitions and debate groups have been established, alongside lots of other fun activities.
Moses has found that Bridge’s vision for the school has given him a renewed vigour for teaching. He finds the way they used to do things “archaic,” but says that now his school is dynamic and exciting, and he is filled with optimism for his pupils. “Bridge has changed teaching,” he concludes.
