Jessica Nakakande is a 13-year-old pupil at Bridge, Nkumba. She is currently in Primary 7 and is eager to receive her Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results.

Jessica has been at Bridge for some years now and enjoys her studies like never before. What she likes about going to school is that, she is able to learn and become literate.

She says Bridge offers a good education and that’s why her guardian decided she should join the school. She adds that her former school was not providing her with enough learning resources.

Jessica lives with her aunt, who is a fishmonger in the nearby market. At home, she has a responsibility of looking after her little sister and cleaning the house.

Back at school, Jessica has other responsibilities. She cleans her classroom and organises the learning materials on the shelf. Her favourite subject is social studies and she wants to be a nurse when she grows up. “I want to treat sick people,” she says.

Jessica acknowledges that Bridge has changed her life. She stresses that her studies have improved and that Bridge is the reason for her academic upgrade.
