For the third consecutive year, Bridge pupils sat the Primary Leaving Exam (PLE) — 293 sat the exam in Uganda: 162 girls and 131 boys.

Key statistic

• 80% of pupils who have been at Bridge for five or more years achieved marks in the highest two divisions ( 1 and 2); compared to only 57% nationally.

Further statistics

• Overall, 65% of Bridge scored in division 1 or 2, compared to 57% nationally.
• 57% of Bridge’s top scorers in division 1 came from the most impoverished part of the country – the eastern region.
• 100% of boys who have studied in Bridge for 5 or more years scored in the top two divisions; compared to 60.3% achieving division 1 or 2 nationally.
• Two of Bridge’s best performing boys and girls both achieving division 1 scores came from two of the most impoverished districts in the country; Mayuge and Iganga.
• In addition, some of Bridge’s best performers scoring in division 2 came from Arua, Bugiri, Kiboga and Pallisa, extremely impoverished Ugandan districts.
• 74% of Bridge schools had a 100% PLE pass rate.
• Overall, 94% of Bridge pupils’ passed the exam, compared to 90% nationally.

Girls education

• Bridge’s two best performing girls come from the Iganga and Wakiso districts. They both achieved division 1 scores with 11 aggregate.
• The number of girls achieving division 1 scores trebled from the previous year and two thirds came from the eastern region – the most impoverished region in the country.
• Across Eastern Uganda, the most impoverished region, 65% of girls at Bridge achieved division 1 and 2 marks compared to 38% nationally.
• Across Northern Uganda, a similarly poor region, 71% of girls in Bridge schools achieved division 1 and 2; compared to 40% nationally.
