Assess for Success

In our community schools in India, an Early Grade Reading Assessment and Early Grade Maths Assessment (EGRA/EGMA) Assess for Success: Improving Learning Gains in India measured the foundational literacy and numeracy skills of pupils to understand both absolute and relative pupil performance.

EGRA and EGMA were developed by the Research Triangle Institute (RTI) in conjunction with USAID.

Key finding

  • Standard 3 pupils doubled their passage reading speed from the beginning of the year, setting them on the path towards fluency and comprehension.
