Alice goes to Bridge, John Hilary Tubman in Harper, Maryland County, south-east Liberia. Her parents, Alexander and Sarah are farmers and live in neighbouring Grand Kru County. Because of this distance to school, Alice stays with friends from church during term time in Harper town.

She takes pride in wearing her blue Bridge uniform and loves going to school, which she says: “Is much more interesting and fun than my old school. My favourite subjects are English and History.”

Since joining Bridge, her English has improved a lot, she adds: “I have learned how to pronounce words properly, which has made communicating with others much easier. It’s made me more confident when interacting with others.”

When she graduates, Alice wants to become an English and History teacher herself, using her interest and passion to motivate others to learn — something Alice says she’s been inspired to do by her Bridge teachers.
