Abigail Fatim Lellor

Pupil, Liberia

Abigail faces more challenges than the typical Liberian child, with regards to her education. However, despite the odds she is thriving. She’s proof that disabled children are differently abled, not disabled.  She was born with no hands but this has not held her back.

Support from her guardians and school—combined with a fierce determination to succeed—has seen her flourishing at her Bridge Liberia school in Montserrado County.

Principal Marthaline Browne is inspired by Abigail, saying: “This semester, she scored an incredible 85 average, beating most of her more ‘able’ classmates. She’s not afraid to get what she wants, I see a bright future for Abigail.”

The eight-year-old, who is now in Second Grade is expected to end her school year with high honours. Abigail lives with guardians, as her parents found it very difficult to provide for her. They say that the arrival of Bridge Liberia in their town was a real blessing, allowing Abigail to attend a good quality school, free of charge.
